Last week we celebrated our youngest son turning six months old. My vagina, by the way doesn’t believe it’s been 6 months. She’s pretty sure it hasn’t been that long. But I’ll save that for another post.
Back to our youngest – he’s developing like a rat breeds. One day he’s just laying there, looking lifeless {minus his colicky cries and acid reflux waterfalls of course} and then all of a sudden BAM! He’s an excitable, happy, DROOLING, inquisitive and interactive little guy!
The months between 1/2 a year and a full year are the best for my husband and I. It has the best return on our investment {up until university graduation that is} because he’s learning so much, isn’t very fussy {okay, okay, I know I’ve been complaining all over Twitter about his teething, but we bought him a new shiny Baltic amber teething necklace, so things are way better now} and doesn’t talk back at us! Ahh the life, now if only things could stay this peaceful forever! ;)
We even managed to {bittersweetly} move him out of our bed {I already miss co-sleeping with him} and into his own crib successfully. Successfully doesn’t mean things are perfect. He still wakes up 2-3 times a night to eat. Oh the joys of needing to actually leave the bed to comfort him. Hello, my name is Jenn and I’m a walking zombie. How can I eat – I mean feed you today?
Hmm, what else has he been up to? Oh yeah! He loves scratching the hell out of my face. He just grabs my jowls and rips his tiny but sharp little baby nails into them. All while giggling, gurgling and squealing with delight. So I do what every mom does, lets him have his fun. Sure I have small red slit marks on my face and neck but that’s just how I roll.
Speaking of rolling, this guy loves to roll – frontwards, backwards, sideways, uphill, it doesn’t matter to him. If he wants something he’s going for it. The cutest thing I’ve seen about his mobility is his ability to army crawl like the best of ‘em. He pulls his chunky body all over the carpet, managing to not get rug-burned {that’s a mystery to me} and looks super cute while doing it!
You may be asking yourself how we {like I stated above} celebrated his half birthday. We didn’t do a trendy half cake, or let him eat something he isn’t supposed to, instead took the boys to the park, played around and after tucking him into his own crib for the first time, my husband and I snuggled into one another’s arms and reminisced over the past 6 months. The good, the bad and everything in between. And let me tell you, there was no bitterness to that sweetness.
