people seem to forget we are mammals it would be like going up to a mother (cat, dog, cow…etc) and telling it its being indecent for feeding its children where we can see. Women have breasts to feed their children and when a child is hungry no matter where they are at the time as soon as it starts to whine and whimper in that way the milk starts to leak more becasue its nature, a goat mother (or most mammal mothers) will stop what its doing no matter whos watching if its young one is hungry so it can feed. if feeding a baby in public is indecent then new mothers could never leave the house for too long since a new baby eats alot 12 to 24 ozs a day or more (i think thats around the amount)i bet the only people that think this is indecent are either childless or extremely old fashioned about exposing yourself in public but if thats the case they make many cover shawls and other things to take care of that. people should just mind their own business or at least think a little differently on the subject instead of seeing a woman exposing herself think a baby human is being nourished with some homemade cooking :)

I breastfed all six of my children. With my first, my mother was too embarrassed, so, being just an 18 year old mother myself, I listened to her and tromped off to the bathroom to feed. Then I said NO with the second and so forth, and started feeding wherever we were, but I covered up. Men don’t care if you breastfeed in public–they will still ogle you. It is the old prunes that don’t like it because they never wanted to breastfeed their babies, and don’t want you to, either.

My daughter breast fed her last three and yes it is crazy how society reacts. What I find the craziest is most times the people who react are the most religious.
Please don’t misunderstand. I am a Christian and have even taught Sunday school. But why is it that the ones who believe in God and His creation seem to be the most offended ?
After all, God designed for women to feed their babies this way! I think it’s a lovely and tender sight to see!

I agree, it is the most natural way and looked down on so much. Breastfeeding should not be taboo, it is the best for babies. It is our right as mothers to naturally feed our babies the way it has been done for centuries before someone decided to give babies milk.

People don’t want to see breasts whether you’re feeding a baby or not. I breast fed all three of my children, but I did it discretely. There is no need for a woman to whip out her bare breasts in public. Do us all a favor and use a blanket or find a private place. I did because I didn’t care to show my breasts to the world. They are private and not for public display. If you don’t have respect for yourself, at least consider how it makes others feel. If the older generation is uncomfortable with it, you need to respect your elders and not do it so bluntly. Sorry, but I strongly disagree with your point of view and can’t stand the young generation’s lack of modesty, lack of respect for others, and selfishness.

Joyce, I did not say I “whip out my bare breasts in public”! Nor do I lack respect for myself or others. I find your comment rude and unjust. Oh, one more thing: breastfeeding isn’t selfish!

Joyce Reply:

I’ve seen plenty of people “whip breasts out in public” with no regard to anyone around them. Breastfeeding isn’t selfish. Showing your breasts openly to people who are uncomfortable with it is highly selfish. If you’re covering yourself and being discrete, I totally support you. Like I said, I breastfed! If you are being discrete and modest when you feed, you have nothing to be offended about, but if you are not . . . Sorry you found my comment rude and unjust, but there is another side to this argument that was not being heard in this post, so I felt a NEED to voice it.

I think breastfeeding is the most beautiful thing in the world when it comes to parenting. I breastfed two of my three children. With my first, I gave up too easily. I was young and didn’t have the proper support.

Thanks for posting this :) I’m such a supporter for breastfeeding, and I breastfed in public for years, until my son was 3+ years old, just so other moms would see me breastfeed and feel encouraged to do the same.
But most of the time no one ever noticed that I was breastfeeding my son everywhere, I kind of wish more people would have :) You don’t have to make a spectacle of yourself when nursing, no one ever saw my breasts. And even if they could have seen a glimpse of skin, get over it! Be the adult and look away and let the child feed.
It’s unfortunate that some moms feel judged or not supported enough to nurse in public; both mom and child miss out then.

I breastfed all four of my children and did so in public, but did cover with a blanket. But if someone is comfortable not covering or a bit of breast shows, so what, its the mothers choice and I agree with Dagmar, the public can “just get over it” that should be the moms choice! It is the most natural thing to do.
